Webinar: Primer on Illicit Opioid Use in the Era of the Toxic Drug Crisis

Objectives:

  1. Overview of the toxic drug crisis
  2. Recognising the clinical presentation of people with opioid toxidrome including tainted illicit fentanyl, such as ‘benzo’ and ‘tranq’ dope.
  3. Understanding the medications used in the medical management of people with opioid use disorder (OUD) including traditional opioid agonist therapy (OAT) and prescribed safer supply/prescribed alternatives (PSS/PA).

With roots in Cape Breton Island, I have lived in Northern BC for the past 25 years.  I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nursing at the University of Northern BC, and Doctorate at Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington.  I completed my Addiction Fellowship at the BC Centre on Substance Use in 2022. I currently practice in Prince George at Carrier Sekani Family Services as the Clinal Director of Substance Use and Addictions. I am the Clinical Advisor, Ministry of mental Health and Addictions, Overdose Emergency Response Centre, and have been an Adjunct Professor at UNBC since 2007. When not working, I enjoy hiking, travelling, and mountain trekking with my hiking partner Mildred the Bernedoodle.
